Marilu Garcia, COA, placed first in the West region in the 2017 Outstanding Ophthalmic Technician Awards. Garcia works at Eye Physicians Medical Surgical Center, Chula Vista, CA and was nominated by Gayle Howard, MD. Garcia is being honored for exhibiting teamwork with doctors, colleagues, and industry leadership through peer mentorship. “I have personally learned so much from Marilu Garcia; her work ethic is tremendous and I admire it,” says Dr. Howard.
Garcia has developed an excellent clinical skill-set, especially in the understanding of directed and appropriate workup of cataract-related, glaucoma and retinal conditions. “She skillfully uses all testing instruments at her disposal and is completely capable of choosing the correct test to investigate the specific issue,” says Dr. Howard, “She is also proficient in diagnostic imaging and testing and is always chosen to teach others these skills as well, balancing precise technique with compassion and patience.”
