Elizabeth Foley, COMT, placed first in the Northeast region in the Outstanding Ophthalmic Technician Awards. Foley, who was nominated by Francisco Tellez, MD, and Jessica Bohner, is being honored for exhibiting teamwork with doctors and colleagues, and industry leadership through peer mentorship. “To say Elizabeth is respected and revered by her fellow technicians and the physicians in our clinic and even pharmaceutical sales reps would be an understatement,” says Dr. Tellez.
“Lizzie’s skill set is like no other technician I know,” adds Bohner. “I wouldn’t be where I am without her hindsight and willingness to invest in me among several other successful techs.”
Foley has an all-encompassing knowledge of clinical responsibilities combined along with outstanding mentoring skills and compassion for patients. “She embodies everything a technician should strive to be,” says Dr. Tellez. She also has a reputation for leading by example and doesn’t settle for mediocracy—traits that were most recently evidenced when she completed her COMT certification.
Berks Physicians and Surgeons, Wyomissing, PA were Foley is employed, has received an Icare® HOME tonometer in addition to a cash prize. The HOME tonometer is an easy and patient-friendly method for 24-hour monitoring of intraocular pressure to tailor the management of glaucoma patients and suspects.
The Outstanding Ophthalmic Technician Awards recognize the quality care and dedication of Ophthalmic Technicians, who demonstrate exemplary talents in clinical practices, patient care, and collaboration. The awards program was established by Local Eye Site and is sponsored by Icare USA.
